The Inner North and City is one of Canberra’s most vibrant and diverse communities, home to secondary and tertiary students, young families, working professionals, and downsizing older people. The unique stresses from managing hectic everyday lives in and around the busy inner northern and city suburbs often results in emotional overwhelm, burn-out, relationship conflict, grief and loss or trauma, and many more unique challenges. Elmarie combines person-centred counselling with proven therapeutic models to tailor any psychotherapeutic support to your specific lived experience.

Tailored one-on-one sessions supporting adults and adolescents (aged 12+) to process emotional pain, improve self-awareness, and overcome anxiety, depression, or self-doubt.
Focusing on strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, resolving conflict patterns, and creating a safe emotional environment for couples and families.
The Inner North and City-district’s unique demographic mix means mental health needs vary widely across the district. Life around Braddon, O’Connor, Dickson, Lyneham, and the City Centre comes with different challenges. University students at the Australian National University often face high anxiety, identity exploration, and social isolation, while local couples, families and parents frequently struggle with relationship challenges like communication barriers, work-life balance, or parenting/career stress.
Elmarie’s extensive background as both counsellor, and social worker enables her to address these local challenges with deep empathy and practical strategies. By understanding the social landscape of the City and Inner North Canberra and human psychology, she delivers grounded guidance that fosters long-term emotional resilience, clarity, and stronger connections.

No referrals are needed. Counselling does not presently fall under Medicare-rebated mental health plans, and therefore no doctor’s referral is required. Despite no Medicare rebate, counselling is a cost-effective mental health service due to overall lower fees. There are indications that this might change in the near future.
