SERVICES

  • Individual Talk Therapy

One-on-one person-centred talk therapy,  either in person or online, where the  psychotherapy and counselling are determined by the client’s story and strengths.

As an integrative family and systems psychotherapist, Elmarie uses a person-centred approach and systemic family therapy principles to understand human behaviour and will use whatever psychotherapeutic approach that will best fit the client and their situation.

Sessions are usually 50 min long and 10 min used for handling administration and note writing.

  • Family and Couples Therapy

Pain and discomfort never happens in isolation, but mostly in relationships where we are wounded, scarred and disappointed. It is often necessary to engage the whole family system in counselling to help individuals cope better and adjust the ways people deal with each other.

Family and couple’s counselling is a 75 minute session where the counsellor is a neutral facilitator.

It is important to understand that the counsellor is not a miracle worker that solve issues formed over many years or fix people in a single session. Those unrealistic expectations will be standing in the way of real change and counselling success.

  • Trauma Counselling

Trauma counselling are essential in a world burdened by anxiety and trauma as individuals strive to navigate their daily lives; we now understand more about how trauma affects brain function. Persistent trauma responses can leave us feeling hyper-vigilant, constantly tense, making it challenging to live fully and harmoniously. Elmarie’s counselling approach is rooted in trauma-informed care, and she specializes in assisting individuals in managing their trauma with better adaptive coping strategies in more effective ways.

  • Creative Therapy

We are often not aware of why we can’t seem to solve our own problems. Our trauma get stuck in the unconscious, and our lack of insight into feelings, thoughts and behaviour creates a lot of stress or discomfort.

If the client is willing, creative therapies like art, poetry, movement, dance, and music are used to unlock the client’s unconscious and help revise strategies to deal with problems. It is especially useful for people unable to verbalise their problems.

  • Brief Therapy

Brief therapy works for clients that has been on waiting lists a long time. It is a single session approach and is approximately 90 minutes working on a focused need the client identifies. This approach is founded in the belief that a client is the expert of their own life and already in possession of a solution. The counsellor help the client focus on unlocking this innate solution.

Research not only support the success of this approach but also provide a strategy for giving the 70% of clients that never return to therapy after the first session, a more tangible and usable strategy to deal with their issues.

  • Grief Therapy

The loss of someone you hold dear is a devastating experience, often causing us to feel lost ourselves. Loss is not always held only by death, but also people disappearing from your life, like a dear friend, or a much-loved animal or even by changes in circumstances like broken relationships. Grief have no time frame, nor does it ask permission to mourn. Let the counselling process help in expressing, and navigating your grief, and finding new ways of continuing.

  • Group Sessions for Young People

Small groups for adolescents and young adults managing anxiety, depression, social isolation and adjustment. The groups are offered when there is enough interest in such a service and can be both in person or online.

Elmarie offers a support group service to parents managing the teenage and young adult phases of raising children. It allows parents to take time out, share with others and address some of the issues they are struggling with or are worried about.

  • Wellness and Creative Workshops

Elmarie offers Mental Wellbeing retreats or workshops. These workshops offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and allows artistic expression of self and experiences like moments of meditation and sharing, fostering new ways of living in a supportive, calming environment.
